Coco and his Matrix-esque fighting moves heading to KC

Well it looks like we found our answer to "Who is going to be our starting CF next year", and his name isn't Covelli Crisp. Crisp never really lived up to his hype here as the replacement for long haired Judas. Injuries plagued his short tenure here, and inconsistencies at the plate cost him plate appearances to Jacoby. Multiple reports are confirming that Coco will be heading to KC for reliever Ramon Ramirez (who sounds like he belongs in Scarface). Ramirez last year was a very good reliever for the Royals, posting a 2.62 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 70 innings. There is no doubt that this Ramirez character will be a serious upgrade over a certain middle reliever who is no longer on the team, but I dare not name.

Coco will be best remembered for upending Japanese supervillain Akinori Iwamura, and starting the April brawl with the Rays, which of course the media claimed was a turning point for the Tampa Bay DEVIL ray's improbable season. My most memorable Covelli moment is Game 7 of the 2007 ALCS when he careened into the Center Field wall at full speed to seal the win. I was there and the image will forever be etched in my memory. It's too bad we couldn't keep him on board as a fourth outfielder. So it looks like all the pink hats got their wish, McDreamy will be patrolling centefield at the Fens next year.

I'm warning everyone right now... this is going to bite the Sox in the ass when Drew goes down in '09 and Van Avery is our best option to fill in...

You can never have enough pitching, and this Ramirez kid coould be solid, but Coco's worth more than an uproven RP... no?

The fro and Matrix moves alone should have earned us a throw-in prospect...

my hope is that this is the prelude to signing Adam Dunn.

All of our other efforts to acquire late-inning relief help (see JC Romero, Julian Tavarez, Ramiro Mendoza, Joel Piniero, Matt Mantei, John Halama, Curtis Leskanic) have gone so well, so I can't wait to see this Ramirez guy.

Not a big fan of Dunn... regradless of the 40+ HR power... plus, he's gonna want to start - as are Bay and Drew...

Maybe Raul Ibanez or even Baldelli or Gabe Kapler might be a cheaper/better fit?

Also - as I said on the blog - if Theo's clesaring the books so that he can make a serious bid for Teixeria - I'm cool with that...

I hope the addition of Ramirez to the bullpen allows them to move Masterson into the rotation.
